What would happen if silicone products lose rebound?

27 Nov, 2024 11:18am

Many times, the silicone sealing products we buy have some problems after long-term use, such as the anti-aging ability, high and low temperature resistance, tensile resilience, etc. The silicone products have high strength elastic function, so many products use silicone sealing rings and fixed seals mainly because of the high strength elastic performance. If the silicone material loses its material performance, what will be its impact and functional problems?

If the silicone sealing ring loses its tensile rebound performance during the sealing waterproof and dustproof process, there may be several problems that the product may encounter during the sealing process!

1. The overall effect of the sealing ring becomes stiff due to lack of elasticity, and it will be completely free from force in electronic and mechanical seals, making installation a problem. Long term twisting and excessive pulling force during loading and unloading may lead to cracking or even shape variation

2. The phenomenon of rebound performance and non rebound when stretched has already occurred in silicone seal ring manufacturers. The reason is due to quality issues with the material mixing standards. If there is tensile force but the rebound effect cannot be achieved, the functionality of the product will be meaningless. Therefore, the rebound force will cause the product to deform and become larger when stretched, resulting in size problems and even softening of the product. Some commonly seen O-ring seals have this common problem, and the main reasons for these problems are not only in the raw materials, but also in the actual production process of silicone manufacturers. For example, the product hardness is high, and the expired vulcanizing agent is caused by the raw materials not being refined after long-term storage. The processed product is too brittle and has no rebound. Effect. If the processing time is too long or too short, the product may become brittle due to temperature changes caused by high temperature heating in the machine. On the other hand, if the vulcanization time is too low, the problem is that the product becomes soft and lacks rebound force, resulting in no rebound effect after stretching.

Silicone rubber products are currently used in many common industries, such as mechanical seals, electronic dust and water resistance, automotive shock absorption and buffering, oil cylinder oil and liquid resistance, etc. If silicone sealing products lose their elasticity, the silicone sealing ring will lose its main functionality. However, many of our products currently have this situation, mainly due to the production process of silicone manufacturers and the degree of raw material blending. Therefore, it is necessary to intervene and understand the standards for tensile rebound strength from multiple aspects!
